Funeral services for Mr. Oran Clayton Allen, 86, were held at 10am Monday, April 1, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Monterey, LA, Rev. John Rushing and Rev .Billy Wallace officiating. Burial followed at Scott Cemetery, Monterey, under the direction of Comer Funeral Home, Ferriday. Mr. Allen was born December 19, 1926 in Brazos, TX to the union of Octavious John & Ruby Annette Allen and passed from this life on March 29, 2013 at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, LA. Mr. Allen served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, After the war he attended LA Tech and Northwestern State University where he met his wife and best friend of 63 years. He spent his career working in several federal agencies, the first being the U.S. Post office in Dallas, TX, and later transferring to the new Veterans Hospital in Shreveport, LA; which had just opened and where he had grown up. Most of his career however, was spent with the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board in Shreveport, LA, Spartanburg, SC, Norfolk, VA, Little Rock, AR, and Atlanta, GA. He was then transferred back to Shreveport as District Manager until his retirement. He then began doing the things that he loved, such as farming, fishing, hunting, and lastly having coffee at the "Co-Op" with all his friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Eugene Allen, of Seattle, WA. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Girlinghouse Allen, 1 son, Clayton Lloyd Allen of Washington D.C., 1 daughter, Andrea Carroll of Basile, LA, 4 grandchildren, Brandy Brenty Poole, Joshua Allen, Lindsey Allen, and Jeremy Allen, 3 great grandchildren, Layton Allen Poole, Thomas Michael Poole, and Christian Trey Poole, 1 great-great grandchild, Nathan Cade Poole, First Baptist Church of Monterey Sunday school class, and a host of extended family and friends. Pallbearers will be Layton Poole, Tommy Poole, Trey Poole, Brad Adams, Steven Simpson, Greg Thompson, and Ernest Lee Wilson.
