Carl "Jackie" H. Cowan

October 14, 1927 - December 16, 2017

Funeral Services for Carl H. “Jackie” Cowan, 90, of Dunbarton, who passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Riverland Medical Center will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 10am at Dunbarton First Baptist Church in Dunbarton with Bro. Jeremy Howington and Bro. Elbert Sanson officiating. Burial will follow at Cypress Grove Cemetery under the direction of Comer Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at Comer Funeral Home from 5pm to 9pm. Jackie was born on October 14, 1927 to Gordon Albert Cowan and Mattie Ella Tarver Cowan in Ferriday, LA. He was a member of Dunbarton Baptist Church. Jackie was a farmer for most of his life. He worked as a tanker driver for the Concordia Fire Department District 2 and was also an auxiliary deputy for Concordia Parish Sheriff’s office. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and just had a love for the outdoors. He was a wonderful man, who had a deep love for his family, his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ethel Lois Watkins Cowan; two daughters, Delores Cowan and Patricia Free; one great-great grandson, Jayden Martin; three brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Ethel Marie Free and husband, Jim of Jonesville; Billie Ruth Lofton of Ferriday; one son, James Gordon Cowan of Dunbarton; two granddaughters, Tina Cupstid, of Vidalia, Bridget Sanford and husband Bill of Monterey; four grandsons, Stanley Gardner and wife Jamie of Jonesville, Mark Gardner and wife Hope of Pineville; Joshua David Cowan of Alexandria, and James Bradley Cowan of Dunbarton; twelve great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Mark Gardner, Stanley Gardner, Jordan Gardner, Evan Sanford, Brandon Cupstid, Scotty Cowan, Brett Harvey, and Lynn Collins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Glenn McEntyre, Rocky Cowan, and Patrick Cavin.
