Annie Ruth Stewart (Ezell)
May 10, 1933 - June 30, 2020
Annie Ruth Stewart (Ezell) born May 10, 1933, in Copiah County, MS, crossed over into Glory Land on June 30, 2020, in her home in Piedmont, OK, under the care of CrossRoads Hospice, with family by her side. A private graveside service will be held under the direction of Comer Funeral Home, Ferriday, LA. Annie, or Nanny or Nan to many, had a feisty, strong spirit that made her a survivor in so many ways. She had a quirky sense of humor that made others laugh. She grew up on a farm with her 7 siblings in Copiah County, MS, but lived most of her adult life in the Natchez/Vidalia area and raised her children there. She worked full time outside and inside the home until retirement. She was known for her beautiful handwork including crocheted tablecloths and bedspreads. Spending time with her family brought her the most joy. After the death of her husband, she moved to Oklahoma to live near her daughter. She enjoyed her life at Village Baptist Retirement Center where she was known as “Huggin’ Annie” and even won the Sr. Citizen Recognition Award for service. She made it her ministry to hug and love, give kind encouragement and mints to everyone especially those in the nursing home who didn’t have anyone to visit. She became a beloved grandmother to all via social media under #dateswithnan created by her granddaughter. In her final months, she moved in with family as her health was declining. She was privileged to be able to pass from the arms of family into the arms of Jesus while they sang her favorite hymn, “I’ll Fly Away”. She loved Jesus and tried to live like Him. She knew she wasn’t perfect but knew that God loved everyone and was forgiving to those who asked; and, she unashamedly imparted those truths to her children, grandchildren and great-grands, as well as, all those she came in contact with. She was dearly loved by many and will be missed immensely. The family would like to thank the staff of CrossRoads Hospice for tenderly caring for and loving their beloved mother and Nanny.
