Funeral services for Edgar W. Dillon, Jr. 89, of Vidalia, LA. will be 11am Thursday September 08, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church in Vidalia, LA. with Rev. Ron Ledford officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors from The Honor Guard of VFW Post 5002 in Natchez, MS. under the direction of Comer Funeral Home Ferriday, LA. Mr. Dillon was born April 17, 1927 in Tylertown, MS. to the union of Edgar Wallace Sr. and Ada Brumfield Dillon and passed from this life September 05, 2016 at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, LA. surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Dillon was a man that loved his Lord and Savior, and loved even more to spread the word of Jesus Christ. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Vidalia, LA. His proudest achievement in life was his family. He created a family that knew what it was to be loved and cherished. He made it a point to entertain and make his grandchildren laugh. He was a very patriotic man, one that proudly served his country and enjoyed telling many stories of his years of service. At the age of seventeen, he left his senior class to join the Coast Guard and fought during WWII. After the war ended, he joined the Merchant Marines, where he remained until the time he married. He thankfully and faithfully worked for International Paper Company in the Power House, until his retirement after thirty-seven years. He is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Frank Jones, his son Stephen Wallace Dillon; his sister Mildred D. Baham; his brother Elton E. Dillon; mother-in-law Golda McGehee Simmons; brothers-in-law Bernard Simmons and Reginald Simmons. Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-four years, Patsy Simmons Dillon, his daughter Kathy Dillon Rutter and husband Jody, his son Leslie Dillon and Kellie Smith, Paul Dillon and wife Cyndie; grandchildren Stephanie Jackson Sturdivant, Karen Jackson Bishop, Matt Dillon, April Dillon Blaney, Mariana Morris, Courtney Morris Geoghegan, Charlotte Dillon Sibley, Stephen Dillon, James Dillon, seventeen great-grandchildren; sisters -in-law Ivy Lee Robertson, Jeanette Walker Maxie, and Iris Walker; brother-in-law Percy Simmons and Sidney Simmons; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallearers will be Paul Dillon, Matt Dillon, Stephen Dillon, James Dillon, Greg Bishop, Chad Blaney and David Sibley. Honorary pallbearers will be Leslie Dillon, Jody Rutter, Tony Joe Braley and RV Mize. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society at 475 Liberty Road, Natchez, MS. 39120, or a charity of your choice.
